Port of Algeciras handled 4.4 million TEUs up to November

The Port of Algeciras (Spain) handled a total of 4.4 million TEUs up to the end of November, representing an increase of 9.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. In fact, the Algeciras enclave has handled more than 527,000 import and export containers at the Juan Carlos I Pier and the Exterior Green Island up to November.

The positive data shows that the total merchandise traffic has increased to 98.5 million tons, which is a growth of 5.4% com-pared to previous years. The general cargo sector has improved by 6%, handling a total of 63.6 million tons.

However, solid bulks have reduced their traffic by 10.3%, man-aging to transport a total of 1.7 million tons. To strengthen the management of goods in port facilities, the Port of Algeciras has approved both the occupation of more than 72,000 square me-ters of land and the occupation of 97,000 square meters of water for the installation and operation of a floating dock in the area of San Roque.
