Peru: More than 21,000 Hectares Planted with Export Products

The general manager of the Olmos Tinajones Special Project (PEOT), Juan Saavedra Jiménez, informed that four years after the start of the irrigation works, more than 21,000 hectares of various agroexport products have been planted.

According to figures from the Pro-Olmos Association, the project has generated an investment of over US$ 750 million for Lambayeque due to the creation of 38,000 hectares of new land, where 20 national and foreign companies plant their crops using a pressurized irrigation system.

Saavedra Jiménez also indicated that there are plans to irrigate the 38,000 hectares of new land and the 5,500 hectares of the sector known as Valle Viejo, it will be progressively improved. Thus, in what was once a dry forest, the project has managed to plant avocados, blueberries, grapes, sugar cane, asparagus, mango and capsicum, which sale, according to figures from the ESDP, has generated an estimated US$ 150 million in agricultural exports throughout this year.

Even in the area of Valle Viejo there are another 875 hectares that produce organic bananas, mango, passion fruit, orange, papaya, watermelon, and grape, among other products.
