Puerto Contecon Guayaquil Receives Neutral Carbon Certification

4.1.2019

The Contecon Guayaquil port has obtained neutral carbon certification issued by the consultancy and environmental rating agency Sambito, it is the first in Ecuador to receive this distinction.

The certification relates to the policies of the entity, channelled into actions by the environment and translated into sustainable initiatives such as recycling as well as the incorporation of technologies that reduce the impact of the operations of the country's main port.

This certification helps the entity in its efforts focused on balancing the emissions of greenhouse gases with reduction and compensation practices.

It seeks to counteract any emission from equipment such as: cranes, port tractors, air conditioners and any other source of pollution, or in turn, compensate for it through the sponsorship of forests and protected areas.

In pursuit of this objective, a team was set up in charge of verifying possible emissions as well as all the fundamental requirements for the Carbon Neutral Committee certification.
