Eight of Maersk’s Ice Class Ships Bring Ecuadorian Bananas to Russia

31.10.2018

Maersk has boosted the export of bananas from Ecuador to Russia, by making available to the producers of the South American country eight ships capable of navigating in ice waters.

For Ecuador, the Russian market is the most relevant, in the first seven months of 2018, around  45 million boxes were exported, representing 20.63% of the total marketed by the South American country to the world in that period.

Maersk arrives in St. Petersburg with an icebreaker fleet of eight ships able to navigate in icy waters.

In a press release, the shipping company recalled that it is the only service that exists from Ecuador to Russia. "We have invested heavily in Ecuador so that Russia receives Ecuadorian bananas directly and with good quality," explained Francisco Ulloa, director for the West Coast of Maersk Line.

Maersk Line has added new security codes for the transport of dangerous goods after a thorough review of current security practices and policies.
