Honduras: SAG Socializes the Family Farming Strategy

1.6.2018

The authorities of the National Service for Agrifood Health and Safety (SENASA) attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), delivered 19 farm registries to the farmers affiliated to the Cooperativa Agropecuaria Las Guanchias and the Association of Independent Banana Producers (Aprobana) in Santa Rita, Yoro.

The delivery was made by the Regional Coordinator of Senasa, San Pedro Sula, Gustavo Fuentes, representing the General Director of the Institution, Ricardo Paz, in coordination with the head of the Department of Diagnosis, Surveillance and Phytosanitary Campaigns, Diana Martínez and Erick Padilla, official in charge of registering the producers in the General Subdirectorate of Plant Health.

"We are happy because for the first time these banana producers are receiving their registration of farms, after having done an information survey in their plantations, and a respective diagnosis, then a study that showed that they comply with the programs of good agricultural practices and integrated pest management," said Diana Martínez.

When handing over this register, the banana growers also have the unique traceability code that they can implement to search or approve their products with export destinations.

During the award ceremony, Maynor Velásquez, President of Aprobana, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the producers for this great contribution to this sector "thanks for the support in the management of the registration of the farms, we hope to continue maintaining this coordination with Senasa, which allows us to strengthen our banana production systems.
