Dominican Republic: More Than 7,200 Banana Producers Trained In Four Years

18.5.2018

The ISA University of Santiago, as part of the consortium that developed the Banana Accompaniment Measures Program, led by the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) and financed by a donation from the European Union, presented a final report revealing that more than 7,200 workers from the production sector were trained in the last 4 years, exceeding the goals established at the beginning of the project.

In addition, in the same period specific training was carried out with 1,500 producers and technicians from the organizations affiliated with the Dominican Association of Banana Adobanano, the main national organization of producers in this sector.

Benito Ferreiras, rector of the ISA University said: "We are proud to be part of this program that contributes training to strengthen the competitiveness of the banana sector, so important for the Dominican agrarian economy."

Dominican organic bananas enjoy great prestige in international markets where their quality and care in the management of production are recognized. The continuous training of the professionals of the field, structured and energized by the BAM Program during the last 4 years, deserves to be considered as one of the key elements to guarantee that the banana continues to be a country positioning element.
