Ecuador: Yilport to Maintain Same Port Fees in Puerto Bolívar for Banana Exporters

27.4.2018

The request made by the Government of Ecuador to Yilport to keep the same service fees and taxes for the duration of the process of containerization in the Port Authority of Puerto Bolivar (APPB) would have allowed a rapprochement between the banana sector and the Government.

According to the Ecuadorian press, the representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), Yilport, APPB and the Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec), met recently to define the issue, making it possible to maintain the tariff at 15 cents per box of bananas in Ecuadorian ports, this will cover the transfer from the truck to the ship's hold; the rate will be maintained until 2021.

According to the producers, this resolution comes after constant meetings of the sector with the President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, where they stated that stability for the sector continues to be one of the biggest contributors to the economy of the State.
