Paraguay Seeks To Increase Market for Its Banana

13.4.2018

The National Plant and Seed Health and Quality Service (Senave) of Paraguay, informed that they will redouble their efforts to improve the health and safety conditions in banana production, in order to strengthen the sector and increase the markets for the fruit.

Oscar Cabrera, president of Senave, stressed that the idea is to strengthen the work of producers in aspects like safety of the product, particularly with regards to the Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) allowed in bananas.

Senave will work with the producers, in order to comply with the technical recommendations that will strengthen the national banana production, which is currently a very important product thanks to great acceptance in the internal and external markets.

The director of Laboratories for the institution, Alfredo Gryciuk, said that the banana production system uses agrochemicals, "that although not prohibited, their use requires a technical, specialized and joint work to avoid exceeding the allowed MRLs, in order to comply with international market demands," he added.

Last January, Senave signed a work agreement with the National Inter-sectorial Table of Banana Competitiveness, to strengthen the production and marketing of the product for internal and external markets, through quality certification programs, safety and traceability.
