Reybanpac Obtains Carbon Neutral Product Certification

13.8.2021

Reybanpac, Ecuador's largest banana producer and second-largest exporter, recently reached a new milestone in its environmental commitment. After a measurement and audit process, it obtained the carbon-neutral product certification for its banana operation, from cradle to the shipping port, following the ISO 14067 standard.

"This certification is the result of our commitment to contribute to the mitigation of climate change. The reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases should be a priority for everyone, including agribusiness.", says Vicente Wong, CEO of Reybanpac.

The certification covers the firm's 45 farms and nearly 7,000 hectares of plantations. The production process was evaluated from the nursery to the banana boxes at the shipping port in Guayaquil to measure the carbon footprint. After the audit, it was confirmed that Reybanpac manages to capture the total CO2 emissions generated in its operation.

"We have been implementing good agricultural practices such as precision agriculture for some years. We are permanently focused on greater efficiency, optimizing, and reducing the use of resources and inputs. Our philosophy is to offer consumers high-quality fruit, which is also grown under strong environmental and social responsibility standards. We will continue maintaining carbon neutrality in our operations and seek to contribute more to reducing emissions. A forestry plan of over 5,000 hectares adds to the climate action through one of the Group's companies. Thus, also contributing to the capture of CO2 from the atmosphere," says Wong.
