Cameroon Exported 20,184 Tons of Bananas in March 2021, up 31% Year on Year

9.4.2021

According to data compiled by the Banana Association of Cameroon (Assobacam), Cameroon exported 20,184 tonnes of bananas during March 2021, increasing 31.17% over one year.  In detail, the market leader Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), a subsidiary of the Compagnie fruitière de Marseille, posted 16,868 tonnes for export in March 2021, an annual increase of 24.1%.

The Cameroon Development Corporation, the industrial unit once shut down due to political and security violence in the South West region, has recovered. It posted 1,964 tonnes in terms of banana exports in March 2021.

Finally, Boh Plantations Plc, the local market's small thumb, rose from 1,098 tonnes in March 2020 to 1,352 tonnes in March 2021. This represents an increase of 254 tonnes, an increase of 18.7%.

Assobacam does not indicate the reasons for this rise in banana exports to Cameroon. The performances might depend on the coming back of CDC, besides favourable rainfall, which has boosted the production of all players in the sector.
