Colombia: ICA Delivered 85 GAP Certificates to Properties in Magdalena

2.10.2020

The Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA granted a total of 85 certificates of Good Agricultural Practices. The properties certified with GAP by the ICA are located mainly in the municipality of Zona Bananera. In contrast, 38 more properties were verified in compliance with the biosecurity standards for the prevention of Fusarium R4T, within the framework of Resolution ICA17334 of 2019.

The farms are banana producers who are registered with the ICA as export farms and are monitored by the Institute to ensure safety in primary food production and contribute to sustainability in regional and national productivity.

With these activities between the ICA and the producers, the population has food produced responsibly in harmony with the environment. It can guarantee sustainability in the business by applying surveillance of the export area to prevent the spread of the FOC R4T fungus. This way also protects the banana agribusiness in the region.

Carlos Manjarrés Altahona and Julio Sierra Jarma ICA professionals in Magdalena lead the BPA processes on the farms and accompanies the producers.
