11.9.2020

On September 4, the agreement for the construction of the sixth pier was signed by the Yilport company in Puerto Bolivar. The cost of the construction will be $ 176 million, and the works would begin at the end of 2020, said Gabriel Martínez, Minister of Transport and Public Works (MTOP).

The President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, said that "the new dock will benefit carriers and that this will generate more work." He added that the donation of 15 hectares made by the Navy, "will be used to build a Harbor Master's Office." The President witnessed the signing of the agreement that was made in Puerto Bolívar, in the Ecuadorian province of El Oro.

“It is an investment by Yilport, as part of commitment it has with this port and other works are planned. Today we are exporting 54% of El Oro's banana production and with these investments we aspire to reach over 80%. The investment is to allow the operation and entry of larger vessels,” said Alfredo Jurado, manager of Yilport.

Previously, the president, together with Minister Martínez and the managers of the concessionaire, made a tour of the facilities of the seaport, in addition, a technical explanation of the expansion of services with the construction of dock number 6 was made.

According to Martínez, Pier 6 will have a length of 450 square meters, a yard for containers, refrigerated warehouses and accesses will be built. President Moreno also reported that some 33 million dollars have been invested in dredging works.
