CMA CGM Amps Up Its Cyber Space Security

14.6.2019

To safeguard its shipping lines and port infrastructure against cyber-attacks, French shipping major CMA CGM is keeping its cybersecurity robust by ensuring that the company’s vendors have protected systems.

S Rajagopalan, Commercial Director, CMA CGM Agencies India, told media persons on Wednesday that when the shipping company is connecting with its vendors in the cyberspace, the vendors also must comply with strict security requirements.

Third-party service providers in operational and logistics space do not have easy access to the company’s systems. Even within CMA CGM, access to the main systems by the staff is also very limited. At every level restriction have been set, said Rajagopalan.

In June 2017, Maersk Shipping was hit by a global cyber-attack called Petya. It resulted in IT systems being are down across multiple sites and major business disruptions. At the JNPT port, the operations at APM Terminal, which is a part of AP Moller-Maersk, were also affected.

Rajagopalan said that the growth for the company in India in the first quarter this year has been about 20 per cent, over the comparable period last year.

It was driven by European, African and US markets. To serve customers better, dedicated desks have been set up for Refrigerated Containers and Over-dimensional cargo, he said.
