Citronex of Poland Expands Thanks to its Banana Business

As company boss Artur Toronowski told a Polish business magazine, the banana importer supplied about 70 percent of the Polish market with the tropical fruit in 2018. In total, 13 million boxes of the company's "Yellow" brand from plantations in Ecuador and Colombia and shipped by ship to Hamburg and Gdansk.

Sales in 2017 were US$ 7 887 million, and sales in the last year have exceeded the billion mark, as media reported.

In addition to stores in Poland, chains Kaufland and Profi in Romania and Aldi in Germany are also supplied by the company.

The Zgorzelec importer also covers half of the banana supply in Lithuania.

At present, the tropical fruits in Zgorzelec are being prepared for delivery in 140 ripening rooms.  Very similar with 60 chambers is operated in Pruszcz near Gdansk. The Zgorzelecer recently expanded in Timisoara, Romania.

Company founder Artur Toronowski, as co-owner of the family business, is assisted by his two sons. Rafael Zarzecki is responsible for over 40 companies in the Citronex Group. Brother Robert Zarzecki takes care of the logistics and other business areas of the company, such as gas stations, transit hotels, and truck washing facilities.

According to its own assessment, Citronex currently ranks fourth among the largest banana importers in Europe, after the Chiquita, Dole and Fyffes groups.
