Colombia: Asbama and Police Meet to Strengthen Security in the Banana Sector

During the work session, the different modalities that criminals have been using to commit crimes of theft, drug trafficking, extortion and kidnapping, as well as irregular migration during 2018, were announced.

With the aim of articulating the work to strengthen the security strategy in the department of Magdalena, the National Police of Colombia, in alliance with the Association of Bananeros del Magdalena and La Guajira, Asbama, and the Banana Association of Colombia, Augura, developed the planning and coordination meeting of the 'Civic Participation Network'.

The meeting was led by the Commander of the Magdalena Police Department, Colonel Fáber Dávila Giraldo, the Executive President of Asbama, José Francisco Zúñiga Cotes and the Regional Director of Augura, Elkin Valencia Ospina, attended by various banana businessmen and security chiefs of affiliate marketers, who expressed their intention to join forces and reinforce strategies to counteract the crime rates and most common crimes that have increased insecurity rates in the department.

The Commander of the Magdalena Police Department, Colonel Fáber Dávila Giraldo, called on all attendees to create a support network to provide information in a timely manner, to mitigate crime and minimize the social risk factors that can allow a better productivity of the banana sector.
