Algeria Lifts Import Ban on Several Products

1.2.2019

The Temporary Additional Safeguarding Arrangement (DAPS) entered into force and the ban on several imported products was lifted, informed the Ministry of Commerce on January 28.

"The goods and products that have been subject to the provisional import suspension during the year 2018, are now free to be imported upon payment of an interim additional safeguard duty (DAPS)", according to the communique published via the official agency.

The Ministry of Commerce recalls that the introduction of the DAPS as a tariff instrument, intervenes for reasons related to the safeguarding of the balance of payments, the encouragement of national production and the development of infant industries.

According to the Ministry, the list of goods and products subject to DAPS may be subject to "revision" and "periodic updating", depending on the evolution of the upgrading of national enterprises in relation to international competition and based on volume monitoring of imports of these products, in coordination with the economic sectors and representatives of the sectors concerned.
