'Plátano de Canarias' Working to Enter Moroccan Market

25.1.2019

Representatives of the Association of Fruit Wholesalers of Tangier have visited the island of Tenerife to see plantations of 'Plátano de Canarias', in addition to ascertaining the necessary conditions to market the product in Morocco. This is the second contact made by Asprocan, with the objective of exporting collectively to the neighbouring country.

Morocco imports around 20,000 tonnes of bananas from various origins each year. It also has its own production of the Agadir variety between the months of September and April. For this reason, 'Plátano de Canarias' has started commercial contacts and aims to position itself during May and August. The project is part of the Export Sector Plan co-financed by Asprocan and Proexca.

"Our goal is to continue trading with other countries, taking into account the particularities and needs of maintaining a market open abroad," said Domingo Martín, president of Asprocan, an entity that is promoting the sale of "Plátano de Canarias' outside of Spain.
