Peru: Agro-exports Increase 15%

18.1.2019

Peruvian agro-exports (traditional and non-traditional) amounted to US$5,875,129,000 between January and November of last year, 15% more than the same period in 2017, informed the management of Agro exports of the Association of Exporters (Adex).

Shipments of the agricultural-agro industrial subsector reached US$5,206,654,000 growing 18.6% and achieved an 88.6% share of the total. The main products exported were avocados, grapes, blueberries, asparagus, mango, banana, cocoa, mandarin and other products.

On a less positive note the head of the Risk Management Unit of the municipality of Puerto Villarroel, Juan Flores, explained that it has rained continuously since January 9th causing the rivers Chimoré, Sajta, Ichilo, Ivirgarzama, Mariposas, Leches, La Chancadora and Crystal to overflow.

According to Flores, the problem is that rivers have lost depth of at least half a metre because there is a lot of sediment which is causing continuous flooding, so it is urgent to do sediment extraction works. The amount of loss due to the floods is calculated at US$3,000 per hectare.
