ONE Initiates Trial of Dual-Temperature Reefer Container

2024-03-29

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has commenced a trial shipment of the world's first dual-temperature reefer container with controlled atmosphere (C.A.) functions. This innovative container can maintain perishable cargo in different temperature zones, significantly advancing marine transportation.

The trial shipment is a collaborative effort between ONE, Pan Pacific International Holdings (PPIH), and ONE's logistics partner, NAX Japan. It marks the first use of this reefer container for marine transportation. The container will transport various types of perishable goods and fruits from Japan to overseas stores of "Don Quijote", the largest Japanese discount store chain operated by PPIH. In addition to supporting two different temperature zones, the container also features C.A. functions, which extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. A foldable partition installed in the middle of the container allows for accommodating different temperature zones.

The room adjacent to the reefer unit supports chilled and frozen temperatures, maintaining cargo from -30°C to +30°C, like a standard refrigerated container. In the other compartment of the container, a thermal fan sends cold air through the ceiling to maintain cargo between -5°C and +30°C.

The position of the partition can be adjusted based on a customer's requirements. When not used, the partition can be stored in the ceiling, converting it into a standard refrigerated container. This flexibility makes the dual-temperature reefer container versatile for transporting a wide range of perishable goods.
