The Philippines has expanded its agricultural presence in the Middle East by exporting fresh pineapples to the United Arab Emirates. On June 28, approximately 18 metric tons of premium MD2 pineapples arrived at the Port of Khor Fakkan, according to a statement from the Department of Agriculture (DA).

This shipment consisted of 1,500 boxes sourced from farms in Tampakan, South Cotabato. To celebrate this significant milestone, Philippine government officials held a ceremonial launch at Dubai's Al Aweer Fruit and Vegetable Market.

The shipment was facilitated by Davao-based exporter Mensch Fil-Am Trading, in partnership with Avante Agri-Products Philippines Inc. Octagon General Trading LLC assisted with the distribution.

The DA noted that the company is also collaborating with partners in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf markets to distribute various Philippine fruits, including bananas, mangoes, durian, and pomelo. Officials anticipate regular shipments every two weeks, reflecting sustained demand for premium Philippine tropical fruits in one of the region's fastest-growing food-import markets.

This latest venture into the UAE market is part of the DA's ongoing efforts to diversify export markets, strengthen trade connections, and promote Philippine agricultural exports throughout the Middle East. The DA emphasised that this export initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on traditional markets and expand the country's presence in the Gulf Cooperation Council. The rising population, growing tourism, and limited domestic agricultural production in the region are driving demand for imported fresh produce. Fresh pineapples and Cavendish bananas remain the primary Philippine export products to the Middle East.
