CMA CGM Launches the "West Indies Hub”

2026-03-20

In December 2023, CMA CGM announced the launch of the Antilles hub project, which brings together the major seaports of Martinique and Guadeloupe, along with the State and CMA CGM, for a total investment of €336 million. The ship owner has made a substantial contribution to this initiative. The primary goal of the hub is to centralise the flow of goods, facilitating the transhipment of containers between the main ocean lines and regional services in the French West Indies, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Since the announcement, both Caribbean ports have begun large-scale infrastructure modernisation to accommodate CMA CGM's large vessels. Just over three years after its initial announcement and a few weeks after its commissioning, the "Antilles Hub" was officially inaugurated on March 10 from Pointe-à-Pitre.

During the inauguration, CMA CGM detailed its new PCRF XL service, which relies on a fleet of seven vessels with a capacity of 6,000 TEUs, tailored to meet the needs of local economies. This service will reduce transit time from Europe by two days and promises the timely arrival of goods at the beginning of the week.

The new PCRF XL service is an extension of the North Europe – French West Indies (NEFWI) service and features increased reefer capacity for transporting fresh produce to Europe. It will include new port calls at Puerto Antioquia, a recently inaugurated deep-water port terminal in Colombia, where CMA CGM is a major shareholder, as well as in Rotterdam. In France, the ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk will remain as points of call, while the port in Montoir has been removed from the itinerary.

Finally, while French Guiana was expected to be integrated with Guadeloupe, it will maintain its direct connections to Europe. Ultimately, CMA CGM anticipates that the Antilles Hub will facilitate the transhipment of 300,000 containers per year, with a gradual ramp-up expected by 2027.
