DP World Callao Surpasses 2 million TEU Milestone in 2025

The DP World Callao terminal in Peru has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first port terminal on South America's West Coast to handle over 2 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) in a year.

The record volume represents a 22% increase compared to 2023, the year before the commissioning of the Bicentennial Pier, underscoring the terminal's support for Peru's growing trade volumes. In 2024, DP World Callao managed 1.96 million TEU.

This achievement reflects ongoing investments in infrastructure, expanded capacity, and operational efficiencies that continue to strengthen Callao's position as a leading regional logistics hub.

"Just a decade ago, 2 million TEU represented the total volume handled by all ports in Peru combined. Today, this volume is being achieved by a single terminal, demonstrating how strategic investments in modern port infrastructure can transform a country's trade capacity and enhance its position within global supply chains," said Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

The record-setting performance was made possible by the Bicentennial Pier, a $400 million investment that increased the terminal's operational capacity by 80%.

This expansion allows the terminal to accommodate larger vessels, operate more efficiently, and reduce congestion — positioning the port to meet rising trade demand while improving service reliability.

As of November 2025, the Port of Callao accounted for 55.8% of Peru's total agricultural exports, with 35.2% of those exports passing through DP World's terminal. Key exports include avocados, grapes, blueberries, mandarins, and mangoes, which support Peru's integration into global food supply chains.
