Ecuador: El Oro Growers Can Join 2026 Banana Price Talks
2025-07-25
Banana producers in El Oro who meet specific criteria can apply to join the Negotiation Table for setting the 2026 Minimum Support Price (PMS), according to MAG. Applications are due by July 31.
Minister Danilo Palacios Márquez stated this aligns with the law promoting and regulating banana and plantain production for export, specifically Articles 1, 3–6.
"We're complying with the law and encouraging the sector to nominate main and alternate representatives to help set the PMS and reference F.O.B. prices for Musaceae exports," the Minister said.
Producers from Northern, Central, and Southern zones are invited. The structure of the table includes:
Northern Zone: One primary and one alternate (Esmeraldas, Cotopaxi, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo).
Central Zone: Two main and two alternates (Guayas, Cañar, Bolívar, Santa Elena).
Southern Zone: Two main and two alternates (El Oro, Azuay).
Candidates must:
Be registered as banana producers with MAG.
Have farmed bananas for at least three years.
Have no banana-related infractions and a valid sales contract.
Belong to a legal organisation and submit the required signatures.
Documents must be submitted to MAG's Directorate of Musaceae Management by the end of July. Selected representatives will serve for a term of two years.
